Just like conventional cars, motorhomes, CUVs and caravans must also undergo regular MOT and emissions tests at the TÜV. You can find the due date for the next MOT test on your vehicle’s registration document and in the TÜV test records.
In TABBERT caravans, LPG is used to power the Refrigerator, hob and heating system. If these gas installations do not function properly, accidents may occur – for example, if gas escapes unnoticed and ignites.
Since 19 June 2025, it has been a legal requirement that all recreational vehicles fitted with a liquefied petroleum gas system must hold a valid inspection certificate. If this evidence is not provided, the gas installation must not be used. The test must then be repeated every two years (counting from the date of the test). For new vehicles, this must be carried out before the vehicle is used for the first time, and also before it is put back into service following a period of inactivity.
The inspection may be carried out by recognised experts, including independent inspectors. The gas inspection is not part of the standard MOT test and must therefore be arranged separately.
